Feature Specifications Index

This project follows spec-driven development using GitHub's spec-kit. This document serves as the central index for all feature specifications, organized by development lifecycle and status.

🏛️ Project Constitution

Location: .specify/memory/constitution.md Version: 1.0.0 | Ratified: 2025-09-27

Our constitutional principles guide all feature development: - Scientific Accuracy (Non-negotiable): 95%+ taxonomic accuracy, domain expert validation - Dual-Nature Architecture: Extraction layer (images → data) + Curation layer (data → standards) - Multi-Agent Collaboration: Technical implementation (agents) + Scientific validation (humans) - Pattern-Driven Development: Proven solutions from INTER_AGENT_MEMO take precedence - Production-Ready Quality: Comprehensive testing, performance optimization, audit trails

Curator Review Interface Draft 002-curator-review-interface High spec.md

Future Specifications

Planned features awaiting specification development:

  • GBIF Integration Engine: Automated taxonomic validation and data submission workflows
  • Batch Processing System: High-volume specimen processing with progress tracking
  • Export Format Manager: Multiple output formats (CSV, DwC-A, JSON-LD) with institutional templates
  • Quality Metrics Dashboard: Real-time accuracy monitoring and performance analytics
  • API Gateway: RESTful interfaces for external system integration

🔄 Specification Workflow

Development Lifecycle

Specify → Plan → Tasks → Implement → Review → Deploy
   ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
Draft Design Backlog Code Test Production

Status Definitions

  • Draft: Specification created, awaiting stakeholder review
  • Approved: Requirements validated, ready for planning phase
  • In Development: Implementation in progress
  • Testing: Code complete, undergoing validation
  • Released: Feature deployed to production
  • Archived: Legacy features or cancelled specifications

📊 Specification Quality Gates

All specifications must meet these criteria before approval:

Content Quality

  • No implementation details - Focus on WHAT users need, not HOW to build it
  • Business stakeholder language - Written for scientists and curators, not developers
  • Complete sections - All mandatory sections filled with concrete details

Requirement Completeness

  • Testable requirements - Every functional requirement is verifiable
  • Measurable success criteria - Clear metrics for acceptance (e.g., "95% accuracy")
  • Bounded scope - Clear boundaries of what's included/excluded
  • Dependency mapping - External requirements and assumptions identified

Constitutional Compliance

  • Scientific accuracy preserved - Domain expert validation workflow included
  • Architecture alignment - Respects dual-nature (extraction vs curation) design
  • Collaboration boundaries - Clear agent vs human authority domains
  • Pattern integration - Leverages proven solutions from INTER_AGENT_MEMO

🛠️ Using Spec-Kit Commands

Creating New Specifications

# Step 1: Create feature specification
/specify "Feature description focusing on user needs and business value"

# Step 2: Create implementation plan
/plan

# Step 3: Generate actionable tasks
/tasks

# Step 4: Execute implementation
/implement

Optional Enhancement Commands

# Before planning - clarify ambiguous requirements
/clarify

# Before implementation - verify cross-specification consistency
/analyze

Specification Management

# View all specifications
ls specs/*/spec.md

# Check current branch
git branch

# Switch to specification branch
git checkout 001-ocr-extraction-pipeline

📈 Metrics & Success Indicators

Specification Health

  • Coverage: % of features with complete specifications before implementation
  • Quality: Average score on specification review checklist
  • Approval Time: Days from draft to stakeholder approval
  • Change Rate: Post-approval specification modifications

Implementation Success

  • Requirements Traceability: % of acceptance tests tied to specification requirements
  • Scope Creep: Features implemented outside original specification
  • User Satisfaction: Stakeholder approval of delivered features
  • Constitutional Compliance: % of features meeting all constitutional principles
